It’s that time of year again, but for anyone who trains Muay Thai, you know that there is no off season! With the holidays approaching, now is the best time to stock up on some great Muay Thai gear to help you reach the next level in the new year. Whether you’re looking for a gift for a teammate, coach, family member or friend this holiday season, here are some of the best and affordable gifts for any Muay Thai fighter:
1. Glove Deodorizer
Let’s not ignore the obvious- everyone at some point has gloves that don’t exactly smell brand new. After lots of hard training, the blood, sweat, and tears, particularly sweat, begins to make your gear a little ripe. Glove deodorizers can be bought online and don’t cost an arm and a leg. Your teammates will thank you for this investment!
2. Hand Wrap Bag (and other storage gear)
As a fighter myself, I know only too well how messy and disorganized a gym bag becomes. And nothing is more frustrating than digging through an avalanche of gear to find your mouthpiece or a hair tie. But the worst is when your hand wraps become unraveled and get tangled and stuck to everything else in the bag. A great gift to help minimize stress is a hand wrap pouch to keep them separate from so they won’t get wrapped around your other gear (and the Velcro won’t stick to anything else either).
3. Thai to English Phrasebook or Dictionary
Decode what your trainer is saying! Although it’s not really practical to whip out a dictionary in the middle of your training session, learning a few key Thai phrases will go a long way in helping you understand the concepts of Muay Thai- and it might just impress your trainer as well!
4. Speedbag
Not as heavy and cumbersome as a punching bag, a speed bag is a great gift for those who wish to improve their timing and striking accuracy. It’s light-weight and easy to transport, especially if you get the hanging variety (as opposed to the stand-alone model). [Related: How To Improve Your Timing In Muay Thai]
5. Fight Gear and Muay Thai Apparel
Who doesn’t love clothes! Some fighters are sentimental about gear such as shorts and gloves. However, everyone loves awesome Muay Thai-inspired shirts, hats, sweatshirts, or active-wear. Such items are available online either through companies like Amazon or directly from a gym. For the latter, there’s a personal element because it probably has a gym’s logo or branding on it.
