Muay Thai (for moms)
Written by Shaida Hong
I really contemplated really hard…Muay Thai for moms? I laughed to myself sometimes…I thought I was too old and not even physically fit to take the challenging training. I’m a mom, I’m busy, I have to work, I have to cook once I get home, I have to run to practices, I have so much on my plate. Once again, it’s the minds way to trick you to tell you, “it’s not possible”. I battle my own thoughts and said to myself, ‘the heck with it!” I AM mom, I AM cook, I AM caretaker, I AM woman and I CAN! I am so thankful I had the courage to take the steps to join T.A.G. Muay Thai.
I never thought I would enjoy anything and be part of a family that holds me accountable. I love helping with the kids class, the natural maternal instinct came out of me easily. I wanted to encourage the kids in class to learn, to achieve and to believe in themselves. It warms my heart to see how much they have grown. They started from little ones who cried, who whined, who didn’t want to do a thing, who were scared. Now they are the kids when I see test, they’ve shown so much improvement. It was because of their endurance and dedication. [Check out Kids MMA classes]
It makes me proud to be part of their growing pains, in class and in their lives outside of TAG. What I love most is at the end of each kids class, we ask them what have they learned today and what can Muay Thai teach them when they’re in school, and THE best part of ending the kids class, go hug your parents/guardian and tell them how much you love them!
I also observe the parents/guardian of the kids in class and it takes a lot of support and time (believe me I know). To come all the way to class and watch the precious little ones grow and learn. I, as a mom know, because I watched my own kids grow. My dad usually drops off the kids to me but he left to go to Cambodia. I asked Kru Chris if they can attend class with me and they started to come to class with me and saw what I was learning. They were just like me in the beginning: shy, scared, and sucked. I’m just kidding, but it was a transition for them to learn. It made me happy that they loved something that I did. We started to come to class as a family, which made me complete!
YES! Muay Thai is for anyone who has that passion in their own heart to learn, and it’s also for MOMS! I still to this day will strive to teach my kids not only by words, but my own actions!
