Muay Thai Weight Loss Journey
I started training with T.A.G. Muay Thai for my weight loss journey.
I started training with T.A.G. Muay Thai for my weight loss journey. I know it’s not an easy topic for anyone to talk about, but I wanted to join something to keep me active. I struggled with my weight for years, going back and forth and being my heaviest at the time I joined TAG. I starting to shed some of the weight, especially with shadowboxing!
I used to wonder why in the world someone would punch the air. I now understand that you can build your form, technique, flow, footwork and start to piece things together. Repetition is key and you can watch yourself in the mirror as you battle yourself and perfect what you have learned.
I use to watch boxing matches and scream when someone was at their tail end, and couldn’t hold the arms up any longer. It’s not as easy as it looks. It takes work, physically and mentally. You have to have physical and mental endurance, which translated into helping my original goal of weight loss. I remember it first started off with eating right, meal prepping really helped.
I made sure to keep coming to TAG to learn and let me tell you, the first time I did their Phase II conditioning course – I wanted to puke and lay on the mat and not get up. There were times where I wanted to quit, but the coaches and my classmates kept cheering me on and pushing me to be a better me each class.
It’s a good feeling to work as a team and everybody is accountable for one another. After a few more classes, my physical and mental endurance was getting much better. It takes a lot to fight in the ring. I have so much more respect for fighters and the sport.
I started helping some of my classmates with their meal prep as they prepared for TAG’s Sparring Exhibition. It felt good to help them out as they helped pushed me to be better. Joining TAG has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. I’m gaining more confidence and I’m learning what my limitations are and how to handle it. I’ve learned basic Boxing and Thai Boxing combinations and really learning how to apply them. One of the biggest things I enjoy about TAG, is that it’s not just a sport, it’s a way of life. Kru Chris & Coaches started teaching self defense techniques we can realistically apply in the real world. The best part is that my kids join in and they know what to do in a hostile and violent situation. [Related: Self Defense Workshops With T.A.G. Muay Thai]
Not only am I learning the beautiful art of Muay Thai, we as a class learn “street smarts” as well. To be prepared is already half the victory. Knowledge is Key.
